Grandad

My dad is the kind of grandparent that says... "who cares if we're 10 minutes from eating dinner, let's give the kid a cookie the size of her head, and some ice cream, too!"

(to his credit, this was after dinner - after I loudly protested he was not allowed to feed it to her beforehand)

He made a batch of the world's most delicious sugar cookies and the one he made special for Bitty was bigger than her face. Needless to say, Grandad is popular with AddyLouHoo.

Isn't just great how easily intrigued the little person's mind is? Adelaide LOVES this big box full of peanuts. I do believe she was in there for an hour and a half before she came out. While I was able to accomplish the task I was busied by, it took three days and help from Trudi to clean up the mess she made with the peanuts.

Mama's Day

It was a lovely day. Eric made me his most fabulous french toast, bacon, and some fresh sliced fruit for breakfast. We were joined by Bob & Trudi, who brought me a bunch of really gorgeous begonias for my super shady front porch. Subsequently, I got to go to Yellow Rose Nursery... a most fabulous place!

When it was time to go... Bitty insisted on returning the plant wagon and on her own. We have entered the "I'll do it - and by myself, thank you very much" stage.

Who knew pulling a wagon could be so entertaining?

The pots in front of my house are HUGE. I did not want to have to buy a yard of potting soil, so Eric's dad suggested we fill them most of the way up with packing peanuts, lay down a cloth, and top with potting soil - genius, Bob! Bitty insisted on getting in the box and squishing peanuts, she was heartily entertained for quite some time.

Mow the Lawn, Eric!

Adelaide has taken to calling Eric by his name, here and there. She does this either for emphasis or when she thinks he is not listening. A few quotes (Can you hear me, naggy-wife, in these phrases?), "Get off the phone Eric," "Cut it out, daddy, CUT IT OUT, Eric!," and "Eric, mow the lawn."

I wasn't feeling well and Eric was being ordered to mow the lawn, so he strapped Bitty to his back, gave her some ear protection (he's big on ear protection, as he has lost a fair bit of hearing from loud machinery), and they were on their way! She loved it.

I don't whether or not he could hear her, but she chatted to him nearly the entire time.

First Harvest

This is the first crop from our 2010 garden. Radishes!!! Adelaide was trying to eat them before I was even able to wash the dirt off of them. We planted three varieties; Cherry Belles (round red), Helios Yellow (round, off-yellow), and French Breakfast (long, red & white). They are so very delicious.

I believe the best way to eat a radish is in the French fashion. You take the radish, twirl it slightly in unsalted butter, and then lightly dip the radish in Kosher salt, subsequently crunch away and enjoy! Scrump-didily-umptious.

Apple Blossom

This past weekend we journeyed to Ephrata for a visit to Grandad, Nana, Stan-e-ley, Ruby, the cows, Aunty Staci, & Boss. (These were the important persons & animals as listed by Miss Bitty in the days before going). Staci decided that AddyLouHoo needed to have her first corndog, funnel cake, & parade - so we loaded up and headed to Wenatchee's Apple Blossom Festival Parade.

... and I quote, "I'm ready Mama." You might try turning those over sweetheart, they'll stop falling of your face!
